Maximum inflation pressure

Last reviewed: 2026-05-20

The maximum cold inflation pressure at which a tire can be operated, molded on the tire sidewall. This is a physical limit — not the recommended pressure for all loads. The correct operating pressure, which may be lower, is determined by the actual axle load and the manufacturer's load and inflation table.

The maximum pressure on the sidewall is a ceiling, not a target. Running at maximum pressure with a light load causes center wear and a harsh ride.

Real-World Use

A fleet setting pressure at the maximum sidewall figure for all drive tires regardless of load finds center wear across the drive position — the fix is setting pressure from the load/inflation table at the actual tandem axle weight.
