Glossary
Valve stem
The device through which a tubeless tire is inflated and pressure is checked. Valve stem failure — from deterioration, damage, or a leaking core — is a common source of slow pressure loss.
Check valve stems and caps during every inspection. Replace missing caps immediately. Investigate any valve that shows moisture, hissing, or inconsistent readings.
Real-World Use
A technician investigating repeated pressure loss in one drive tire finds a degraded rubber base at the valve stem where it meets the wheel rim — a common and easily missed source of slow leaks.
