Dual spacing

Last reviewed: 2026-05-20

The distance between the centerlines (or adjacent sidewalls) of two tires mounted in a dual assembly. Minimum dual spacing must be maintained to prevent sidewall contact under load.

Check dual spacing when switching tire sizes or profiles. Inadequate spacing allows sidewall-to-sidewall contact that generates heat and abrasion.

Real-World Use

A shop technician installing wider replacement tires on a trailer axle measures the resulting dual spacing and confirms it meets the tire manufacturer's minimum before releasing the trailer.
